Busan, Republic of Korea

Summary of the Immigration Process

  • K-ETA is an electronic travel authorization that visa-free foreign visitors need to obtain before entering the Republic of Korea, by submitting relevant information online such as their travel information. Purpose of travel should be tourism, visiting a family member, participating in events or meetings, or commercial business (excluding pursuit of profit). Starting 1st September 2021, K-ETA became mandatory for all foreigners entering Korea from visa waiver countries and visa-free countries. All foreigners without either a K-ETA or a valid Visa will not be permitted to board a plane to Korea. (You do not need a K-ETA if you have a valid visa).
  • Click the second subtab (VISA) if you are coming from a country that requires a Visa and to determine your quarantine requirements once you arrive in Korea.
  • Click the third subtab (K-ETA) if you are coming from a country that does not require a Visa, but for which you need to register with K-ETA.
  • Click the fourth subtab for instructions on quarantining once you arrive in Korea.
  • Finally, click the fifth subtab to find important travel information on how to get to Busan. Click on “Route 1” if you plan to fly from Seoul to Busan, click “Route 2” if you plan to take the train from Seoul to Busan, and click “Route 3” if you plan to take the bus from Seoul to Busan.

When entering the ROK, you are not required to hand in a negative PCR test anymore from 3 September 2022. Travelers are NOT required to be fully vaccinated to enter the ROK, meaning that you can travel without a COVID Vaccine. Still, using ‘Q-code’before your departure is strongly recommended to save time for the immigration process at the ICN airport for all people entering the ROK to input their passport information and answer the health condition questionnaire. More information on Q-code can be found here: https://cov19ent.kdca.go.kr/cpassportal/biz/beffatstmnt/main.do?lang=en

Upon arrival, as of 25 July 2022, all travelers MUST do a PCR test within 24 hours of arrival, and foreigners for short-term stay entering via Incheon Airport (ICN) and Gimhae International Airport (PUS) are strongly recommended to take a PCR test at the airport's COVID-19 Test Center at their own expense, KRW 80,000 (Approx. USD 60).

To facilitate the process and avoid long queues at the airport, you can make a reservation for the COVID-19 test at the ICN COVID-19 Testing Centre beforehand via the online reservation system “Safe2Go” at https://safe2gopass.com/index

After the COVID-19 test at the airport, you are required to go directly to your reserved accommodation in Busan and stay there until receiving a result via SMS and/or E-mail. In ICN, T1 Airport COVID-19 Testing Center (East/West) and T2 Airport COVID-19 Testing Center (East) are open around the clock.

Further details on their locations can be found here: https://www.airport.kr/ap_cnt/en/svc/covid19/medical/medical.do

You can also check the COVID-19 test timetable in detail here: https://www.airport.kr/ap_cnt/en/svc/covid19/medica2/medica2.do

In case you come to Busan through the PUS and want to get tested there, you can make a reservation for the COVID-19 test here: https://direct.seegenemedical.com/main/
The center opens every day from 09:00 to 18:00. It is located next to GATE 1 in the International Terminals 1F. When making a reservation on the website, please select "Gimhae" for your Test Center Location, instead of "Busan" (See below the screenshot)

In case you don’t want to take a test at the airport, you can go to the testing center for foreigners in Busan, near your accommodation. Please find the List of the COVID-19 Testing Location for Foreigners here, which was published by the KDCA (updated as of 22 July 2022).
